To break the cycle of father-absence in this single-parented generation by equipping followers of Jesus to mentor adolescents toward becoming all that God has designed them to be.
Baltimore Life Coaches is a program of Young Life, the nation’s largest faith-based youth organization. Many kids in today’s urban context face severe social and/or economic challenges. Because of this, our ministry in Baltimore City has chosen to implement a one-on-one mentoring strategy as a key ingredient for accomplishing Young Life’s mission. Simply put, we assign one volunteer mentor, or “Life Coach,” to each and every kid.
Each week our “Coaches” (mentors) and “Players” (mentees) meet together at one of our breakfast gatherings to for food, fun, and Christian fellowship. We currently have three different “leagues” that meet for 12 weeks during the fall semester and 12 weeks during the spring semester.
Coaches who have been matched with kids who live on the west side of Baltimore attend our THURSDAY MORNING gathering which meets in Coppin State’s dining hall from 7 to 8 am.
Coaches who have been matched with kids who live on the east side of Baltimore attend our FRIDAY MORNING gathering which meets in Morgan State’s dining hall from 7 to 8 am.
Coaches and players who have been together for several seasons and are ready to “move up” attend our WEDNESDAY MORNING gathering (men’s bible study) which currently meets at David and Dad’s restaurant downtown (Charles St.) from 7 to 8 am.
Though optional, we encourage Coaches and Players to make every effort to attend our occasion group excursions throughout the school year and summer. These activities may include an Orioles game (majorly discounted tickets!), group movie night, laser tag, go carts, super bowl party, or pool-party cook out.
An optional annual retreat designed specifically for mentors and mentees to attend together. This testosterone-filled weekend includes sports, adventure, fishing, obstacle courses, paint ball, zip lines, and perhaps even a mechanical bull! We also bring in world class speakers to motivate us to become REAL men. This year’s getaway is June 6-8 at North Bay Adventure Camp in Cecil County, Maryland. To register, please contact Arny Arnold at email@example.com.
Our female version of one-on-one mentoring matches Christian women with adolescent girls to help them become the Godly women they are designed to be. To find out more, contact our Director of Female Ministries, Paige Fitz, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We are ramping up our traditional Young Life ministry here in Baltimore, Starting with a WYLDLIFE Club at Calverton Middle School. TO find out more about this ministry, go to www.baltimoreurban.younglife.org or contact traditional Young Life director Josh Goodman at email@example.com.

Though Young Life is an international mission, each individual area is responsible for its own funding. Here in Baltimore City we receive no public monies and therefore rely completely on support from individuals, corporations, churches, and foundations.
Simply put, a Life Coach is a caring adult who commits to befriend, mentor, encourage, open doors, and pray for one kid who needs and wants someone to walk with them through adolescence. After we match you with a mentee, the commitment is to meet with that kid at one of our weekly Life Coach gatherings (see program description) for at least one year. However, be prepared for a friendship that might last a lifetime!
